Default Troubleshooting a starting problem

I have a 2005 Mini Convertible with about 5000 miles on it. Hadn't been used in a week so I charged the battery. When I turn on the ignition I only hear a 'click click click' and the engine does not engage...........any suggestions as to corrective measures?? Thanks.

Sounds like a dead battery. You say you charged it because it was setting for one week? Mine has set a month at the airport while I was out of the country in the middle of winter, and it didn't need a charge when I got back, nor should it have required a charge. Take the battery down and have it tested. My guess is that it is shot. if you continue to have problems after replacing the battery, check into the charging system and for current leaks. It may sound like a stupid question, but worth asking; you sure you didn't connect the charger with reverse polarity?
