Default engine rattle:

hi, im new to the forum and had a question. recently my 08 MCS engine started to make a really loud rattlign noise. the car will still run, but the rattle is extremely loud. anyone know what might be causing this? i checked the oil and i was pretty low. i topped it off but the rattle is still there. any help or suggestions with this would be really appreciated.

i am the original owner, it's an S and it has about 70k miles on it.

thanks again

there is a hydraulic tensioner on the timing chain and if it's loose/defective it can cause a terrrible racket
