I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S with a automatic tranny with 28k on it. This weekend I took it in for a oil change and did it at a non-mini dealership (nearest one is 2 hours away) And then today it started making a popping sound when you rev the motor. The pop seems to happen at a high RPM then again at a low RPM and the car is lacking power when you accelerate and its not shifting right. So did the oil place do something wrong? Im also wondering if this could be from putting low grade fuel into it? Im not 100% but Im starting to have doudts about the gas I put in..... Im hoping I messed up and put the wrong gas and there is an easy fix. Pleas any ideas?
Do you have a check engine light on ?
It could be bad fuel or a turbo line leak fowled plug
I'd try to put some dry gas and octane booster in the tank and see if that clears it up
Ok So I tried the whole dry fuel and then drove it for 30 mins down the highway. The car runs fine the issue is when I try to accelerate there is a huge amount of lag and the car doesnt have any get up and go. It stopped the popping sound and then for awhile was making a whurring sound with a alittle bit of what sounded like metal on metal. so I limped it home and when I got here all the sounds are gone but the car still has no pick up and go... as for the code scan its Thanksgiving today and everything is closed.
sounds like you need an cleaning through the injectors, probably a good amount of carbon building up. Turbos are known for that, especially if you don't use high test gas.
