Default Oil Change - Added 5 Qts??

Hi, I just joined this forum ... I have a 2009 Mini Coupe Base. I just changed my oil according to a member's instructions and I'm now finding that there's so much conflicting information on the net about the amount of oil to put in a Mini R56 engine. I just added the 5 quarts as the member's instructions called for.

Now I am not sure if this will damage the engine. I did completely drain the crank and change the filter ... so ... what is the consensus on 5 quarts of oil?

Will I damage the engine? Please help!! I am the world's biggest worrier

what does it say in the manual about the amount? Dont these engines require alot of oil so they wont have that cold start chatter? You wont ruin the engine with too much oil just the cats and oxy sensors.

And what does the dip stick show? It can be over the upper limit by what looks like a 1/2 quart with no problem.
