Default A question for a Mini Tech

I just purchased a 2011 JCW. I opted to have the coolant temp gauge installed. Runs great, but I noted the temp runs at 106 degrees C ( approx 222.8 degrees F). Is this normal? There seems to be very little gap between when the gauge gets a red line temp and 106 degrees C. I had asked the mini tech at the dealership and he stated it normal to run at 223 degrees F. Seems high. Any thoughts?
