Question '05 mileage issue

Hi there,

I'm quite the novice so forgive me if this is very basic but I'm worried about the mileage I'm getting with my '05 mini. I keep the view on current mpg, and unless I'm going at a constant unbroken speed of 25 mph or so, I'm getting between 13 and 17 mpg. Is that normal? For example when I stop at a stop sign or light and then start to drive, it shows really low mpg for a while. I was told the city average is 25, but mine seems to be 18.

Also, It also has a very wide range when it's calibrating, it will say 68, 35, 54 etc at any given moment and the next second jump to 13 again, and when i cruise it's 99.9. My best friend who also has a mini says that's normal, but is that an issue too? Help!

Thanks

"instantanious" mileage is very arbitrary ... When you are going up hill the mileage will drop , Imagine going up a three mile long hill the mileage will continue to drop.
pressing hard on the gas will drop the mileage and IF you keep your foot down the car could easily be going 100+ so if the 100+mph mpg would be very low

what does the total MPG read ? mines about 3/5 mpg off from what I really get

by total mpg do you mean the average? if so, that's what I meant when I said mine's 18 instead of the supposed 25 '05 minis get for city. and thanks for the reply!

also just 411 i haven't driven on the highway since i reset it, i understand that the normal overall mpg is higher because highway driving is factored in. but like i said the city average should be 25 from what i've read.
