Default How bad are the midland transmissions?

Yes, I can find all sorts of horror stories regarding 3 failed in 70k miles.. But how bad are they actually. Is it a guaranteed grenade or is it a 10% of them fail early, but most last 200k miles?

The reason I ask, is that I'm looking at an 04 cooper, made in May. Everything I have seen states its a midland.. Its 4k, has 120k miles on it, but is otherwise pristine.

I've already read up on the crank position sensor oil leaks, valve cover oil leaks..

Powersteering had some problems due to the fan going out? Anything else I should be checking over when I go look at it this weekend?
