Oil filter wrench
2002 Mini Cooper
Does one need a "special" oil filter wrench to remove housing, or if not, what sort of tool is needed?

Nothin special, just big. a 1-7/16", or I believe about a 38 mm box end, open end or socket. A good place to find one affordably is at a pawn shop.

I thought it was 36MM ... If you look on Ebay a person sells a genuine mini filter and the wrench fairly cheap , then you can buy just the multiple filters after that (He's half the price of the dealer after shipping)

You are probably right Bad Venge, I did a rough conversion from 1-7/16, which I have laying around. It came close to 38.
