Default 2005 MIni Cooper S help

Hello people,

Thinking of buying a 2005 mini Cooper s with 84,000k. I have been reading that the 2005-2006 models fixed alot of the reliability issues that the prev models were plagued with. Curious what I should look for when I check out this mini. When should I get the timing belt or chain fixed? Are minis costly to maintain? Anything can help me. Been destined to own one since my friend ripped up the streets in Vancouver with his Cooper s.
