car wont start

Fuel Pump or fuel filter issues. Before that check your fuel relay switch or fuse.
Not necessarily the same situation for me; my 2002 Cooper S stalls when I start it. I hit the bottom of the fuel tanks a
couple times which jars the fuel pump, then it starts right up. So it's probably going out.
Now the question is, how much to get it fixed since I live in an apartment with no space and tools.
Looking for a good mechanic in the Portland, OR area.

I just did this job with a new fuel pump I bought of Ebay for $170. It took me about 40 minutes to do this job and car started with no hitch. Mini of Portland wanted to charge me $600 to do this 3 hours job! Go figure.
I also found out the fuel filter is lifetime and does not need changing according to the car specs. I know all filters need changing sometime, so after 15 years this car probably needs one.
