Need Help with buying first MINI, Please explain.....

I'm going to purchase a used MINI Cooper S. I KNOW that I want the S Model, First Generation ( supercharged ), and a Manual gearbox.

What I need help with is understanding all of this John Cooper Works stuff.

I see cars advertised with John Cooper Works Factory installed, Dealer Installed, Kits, etc.... Can someone give me a breakdown on all of this ?
I'm not a big fan of Aftermarket, Self Installed , Dealer Installed Stuff. I do however like Factory installed performance stuff !!

What to look for ?
What not to get ?
How to tell if its factory intalled ?

JCW stuff factory installed can be back tracked via the VIN
IMO the Dealer installed JCW is just as good as the factory installed , as the motor stuff is easily bolted on any descent tech can do it ...
I'd bet a 12 year old could install the JCW intake ...
