I drive a 2002 cooper s.
When I am stopped and take off i more often then not hear a load noise from my clutch.
It is only when Iam going forward never in reverse. It sounds as if something is rubbing and it happens when my the clutch is about 2 inches off the floor. Is this a problem with the clutch and it needs to be replaced or is there a simple sollution that wont cost me a arm and a leg?
NO, its more like a slight rubbing or grinding noise as if the clutch fork is rubbing slightly on the clutch disc. But it doesn't happen all the time just every so often.
I'm not sure if this is the same thing but I have kind of a whirring sound occassionally when I take off. Mostly when it's cold and only forward. My dealership is over 100 miles away so if anybody has any insight I would appreciate it.
Yes, when I press in the clutch the noise does in fact go away.

I have seen a different forum this is caused by oil dripping on the clutch plate. Not sure if it's true 100% or not. They said there isn't really anything you can do. But like I said I'm not sure if it's true. I have a 03 S and it does it every so often. [:'(]
usually if I use the clutch gently, that is to let it engage without to much foot feed I don't seem to notice the noise either. A new clutch was put in my 2006 s back in june. To say I am a little puzzled would be a understatement.
