Default Passenger Occupancy Seat Sensor for 2005 S

Passenger occupancy seat sensor is broken and is expensive to replace. I'm looking for an alternative fix that will turn off the Airbag light on the dash and make sure the passenger air bag is working. The Passenger Airbag light above the rear view mirror says "off".

That's what Mini says the problem is. They have to take the seat apart and replace the mat that senses the weight of the passenger. The part alone is $609. As I have researched this problem Mini actually issued a recall for this part for some 2005 S models, but my car is not in it. I talked to Mini again yesterday and they said the passenger airbag would inflate in a crash as long as the passenger seat belt was connected.

Default Any solutions found

I'm having this same problem (airbag light is on and will be very expensive to repair through Mini). Were you successful in finding a work-around?

Nope. I've just left it alone. A mechanic told me that the bag would (probably) deploy if there was an accident.

I'm just wondering if the car will pass inspection when it comes time to renew. I doubt it will and figure it's something I'll eventually have to deal with.

Mine just passed inspection in Utah and I have my airbag light on for the same problem.
