Looking to become a NEW mini owner

Ive totally been into mini's for as long as I can remember and I've finally got to a point where I'm gonna be able to afford one in the near future and theres nothing better than the advice of people who have driven them for extensive periods of time.... So that being said I'm aiming for an 02-04 model. I'd like to get an S but I'll have to see whats avaliable when the time comes. Im not gonna rush it though so I can wait it out and pick one that I want not just any mini. I was wondering if there are any particular things that I should look for.. Spots prown to rust on the car, mechanical things besides the obvious I should bring to my attention when looking at the car in person.... Any info you think may help when selecting the right mini for me... Ive worked on and around cars for sometime now but never gotta a chance to work on a mini up close thats why i ask i dont wanna bother anyone but am just looking for some helpful advice..
