Default '03 R53 S, failure to crank

This morning, the Mini wouldn't crank. Dash lights came on normally, but turning the key didn't cause the engine to turn over at all.

It was 25 degrees this morning. Not knowing the age of the battery (bought car used) I thought the cold sapped the battery during the night, so I put it on my battery charger in the 'START' position for a jump. No deal! I let it sit on charge for awhile. Still would not turn over. Later in the morning I went out and it cranked and started fine. Had the battery checked and no issues were found. Any suggestions?
