Default 04 Cooper O2 sensors

It failed inspection. The front sensor reads 0, sometimes .1. The back sensor reads 8.1. The "dealership" (not crazy about them) wants to "look" at it. Won't give an estimate of $$, which I need to know. The car has 102,318 miles, original brakes and clutch. Are the sensors covered under warranty? I can't get an answer. Thanks.

On an 04 likely NO unless you have an extended warranty

I just called a local dealership to see if I qualify for what they call the "8 or 80" - 8 years or 80k miles recall. Apparently, early model minis had an emissions issue that required a recall. I just missed the 80k mark which means I miss it outright. The guy ( who kept saying "why don't u come by so we can check it out for you?" ) says it was for the upstream O2 sensor...the more expensive one that is closer to the exhaust manifold. I asked him how much a job like that would cost while considering I was out of the recall warranty - $600 bucks he said.

Get the O2 sensor yourself and then DIY. Good luck.

both sensors, parts and labor, my mechanic, $750. Don't let the dealership tell you it's 8/80. It's 10/100! I was over by 2,000.
Thanks for your reply to my question.
