Default Cruise Control problem

I have a 2006 Mini Cooper CheckMate with a automatic Trans which has a problem when in cruise control. When I come to a hill of any length it shifts up and down continuiously (tach goes from 3000 to 4000 back and forth) until I get to the top of the hill. If I take it out of cruise it works normally. It has plenty of power and just shifts down and climbs the hills like any other vehicle does when not in cruise.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had this problem. I have asked a Dealer service person about it and he said that if it doesn't have a trouble light then there is nothing wrong. The car is still in warranty, but is getting to the end of it soon so I need to take of the problem if possible.
