Post Midland r65 Tranny Rebuiild Question

Hello,

I have a 2002 Mini Cooper with the Midland r65 transmission. It has over 120K miles on the original transmission. It began making a noise under load so I purchase the rebuild Kit from MiniMania and everthing is going well on the rebuild. I am ready to re-assemble the transmission but I cannot find which direction to install the input shaft bearing. This is the bearing closest to 1st gear. It has a plastic shield on one side that was destroyed on the old bearing so I have nothing to go by. The manual does not help. The download/step by step instructions do not help - althought they are very good.

Please advise.
