New member considering Mini

Is there an FAQ here that describes differences among the years?

Also what key words can I search for common issues for used Mini's?

I have a 1987 Wrangler, 2002 Porsche targa, and a VW Routan.

Considering a vert Mini for my wife. 10th wedding anniversary this summer. I want to spend $12k or less. I looked at the typical for sale sites but not here yet.
