Mini Cooper Cab Grinding noise on low acceleration

Hi All

I have an 04 Mini Cooper Cab.

I have noticed that sometimes I hear a grinding noise coming from the front of the car when accelerating at low speed, when it makes the noise it carries on during deceleration and can really be felt through the clutch pedal.

Gear changes are fine and I feel nothing untoward in the gear stick whilst the noise is occurring.

I have also been having a strange overheating issue where when I have been in traffic the car can sometimes go from Normal Temp to red line overheat in a matter if seconds. I quickly turn the ignition of where on another grinding noise can be heard in two or three bursts unit it stops. When this happens there is a metallic burning smell and sometimes there is steam coning from the bonnet.

How much doo doo am I in, is this the end of my beloved Cab or are these things connected and a known fault that can be fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
