Default 07 MCS OIL CHANGE

I'm going to change the oil in my mini soon . I have purchased the filter and oil at the dealer. The 07 filter is differant than the 06.It looks as if it doesn't matter which way the filter is installed. It also look like I have to take the radiator over flow bottle out of the way to get to the filter. I know the socket size for 06 is 36mm . Is it the same for the 07?I saw the 06 oil change thing in Mini tech.
Does anyone have any advise .

Thanks
John

I am draining my wife's '07 tonight and will change the filter in the morning when everything is cool. The filter canisteruses a 27mm socket and I was thinking about taking the overflow res. off also. Don't really see any other way to do it.

EDIT: The coolant overflow bottle comes off easily with one screw. After takingout the screw, tip the bottle to about 45 degrees andit will come right up. I tied the bottle out of the way with some string and that allowed plenty of room to get to the filter housing. The filter is different for the '07s and doesn't have small and large openings--they're both the same size.

Hi, I'm a new member and just registered. We just bought an 07 mini cooper hatch. I plan on doing much of the maintenance myself, especially the oil changes. A couple questions:
1) Does anyone recommend using an oil extractor to remove the old oil. I used this when I had a Turbo Diesel Beetle and it allowed for the entire oil change to done from the hood and not under the car.
2) Mini has the free maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles. That said, the oil changes are spread apart 10-15,000 miles, from what the Mini rep told me. I'd like to do every 5k or 7.5k. If I do myself, can I reset the maintenance indicator. Or, possibly I should do oil changes in between the free services that Mini does and they would then be resetting the indicator.
3) Where's the best place to buy Mini parts?

Thanks,
Scott

They don't come with a service plan anymore?! If they do, just let the dealer do it, soo easy!

Dealer explained that there is a count down on miles that when hit, it means to take it in for service. He said that depending on how you drive, this can be anywhere between 10 and 15k. As I said, I'd like to do sooner than that.... just me, a obsessive compulsive.
Thanks for the advise.

Ah, 10,000+ miles on an oil change is actually really common now-a-days. Mine went in for it's first service at 12,000 + miles. BMW and Porsche's are usually 20,000 miles.

I promise you won't hurt anything by going the recomended distance on the oil you have. Plus, sythetic oil is going to get mighty expensive if you change every 3,000 miles.

I am with you.
Mobil 1 and every 5K miles.
Maybe 15-20K is ok or maybe planned obsolescence.
Either way, it won't hurt doing it at 5K-7,500K
I would not reset the interval meter thoughelse thay may give you a hard time.
I would also use their filter from the parts dept. just to be safe.

To Reset Service Indicators such as the Oil Service Interval, or the Brake Wear Light, perform the following steps:
To enter the service Menu:
Insert Key
Do not press clutch / brake
Press Start button
Wait until the Car / revelant Service symbol disappears on the Rev counter display
Immediately after the symbol goes out - Press and hold Both buttons on the Rev Counter
Continue to hold - the system will run a dash light check
Continue to hold
Display will then show VIN / Menu, - continue to hold through this until the time Reappears on the display.
Now release Only the Right hand Button (trip reset) for about a second, and then press and hold again (whilst still holding the LH button)
After another second or 2 the display will show the Front Brake Symbol You Are
Now in the Service Menu
Use the BC Button (on indicator stalk) to scroll through to the relevant symbol - eg Oil Reset or Rear Brakes
To Reset the warning indicator light - Press & Hold the BC Button at the revelant symbol until RESET appears - then press and hold again until the process is complete.
Turn Off and On the Ignition again - Warning should now have gone!
Good Luck !
