09 Mini 30K motor issues?
Hi all.
I'm new to the mini world. Essentially I have an 09 mini non-S with some motor issues. The car story is it was my neighbors. We live on an island is AK and the car stopped running three months ago. She towed it to the island mechanic who decided it had no compression, on any cylinders, and needed a new motor. He said he had to order an English compression tester to figure this out? He's also not willing to work on it so she gave it to me. The car has 30,000 miles on it of easy driving and it's pretty immaculate and she had all the usual maintenance done.
I've done the quick youtube/forum scan and I find some posts on broken chains and blown head gaskets. But at 30K seems a little low for a broken chain. Could be warped head, but he didn't mention any antifreeze in the oil and she didn't notice it running hot.
I haven't seen it yet but before I tear into the thing are there things I should be looking for? Like electrical sensors etc. like the timing sensors which might kill the motor or cause compression issues?
Or tools that are a must have. I know I'll need the timing tools for the chain but other things?
I see a lot of posts about the S motor blowing up but the 1.6 as well?
And also how do I determine which N number this motor is to order tools for?
Any help would be great. Thanks.
