2009 S Model - leaking water pump x2

Bought my Mini in 2013 w/ 33K miles. Water pump was leaking at 55K and replaced by authorized repair center in Dec 2014. This pump was not part of the recall (VIN verification). The water pump installed in Dec 2014 started leaking last week, repair center replaced it again. Warranty had expired (12 months/12K miles). Current mileage 81K. I don't drive this car hard, and it is driven nearly everyday. Technician noted nothing abnormal that would cause the water pump to fail due to the interfaces with the water pump (ie. pulley) Anyone else seen this problem?

This isn't too uncommon as these are known problem areas with these MINI's. Because they're plastic components they fail and leak, sometimes unexpectedly. Did they install the updated metal housing when they installed the second one? If not, MINI did update the unit to a metal housing. If you did and you do not want to install another Genuine pump, I'd suggest the OEM supplier pump Saleri here: 2009 Mini Cooper S Hatchback - Water Pump, Thermostat & Hoses - Page 1. It's a metal housing and comes with a 24 month / 24k mile warranty, which is more than the 2 year/ 12k mile warranty with the Genuine part. Let me know if you have any questions.
