2010 Base Cooper wont shift to 2nd gear
Manual Transmission. All other shifts are fine, including reverse. Seems like it shifts into 2nd gear, but grinds and pops out when I release the clutch. I've tried to shift it slow, and I've tried to shift it quick. Doesn't matter. Won't go into 2nd. Will grind and not let me shift into 2nd. The rest of the car is immaculate, works and is in great condition.
So, what am I most likely dealing with? I've heard the shift linkage bushings and and cable can wear.(this car has about 127k miles but you wouldn't know it looking at the car)
Or, could it be clutch? (I've seen videos where clutch pieces have blown apart)
Or, could it be the gearbox?!!
Also, could it be a solenoid causing the shift problem?

My 2009 Base started that about a year ago. Best I can determine(on mine at least) is that the synchromesh gear has eaten itself. There are lots of threads on multiple forums about this, although very limited info on repairing it. I found 1 video on Youtube showing a guy breaking down and reassembling the trans(not enough info to attempt a DIY). I've decided to just skip 2nd until I find a good deal on a used/rebuilt trans. It definitely takes a lot of fun out of the driving experience, but it still gets better gas mileage that my Jeep.
