2012 Mini Cooper water pump failure - BMW knows it's a defective part!
Anyone else have issues with this? My Mini has 45k miles on it and the water pump has gone out already. BMW just agreed to settle a class action lawsuit regarding this part. I have attached the legal docs if anyone is interested.

Haha, I just received the letter also. But my story is way more complicated. Only now I realized it wasn't my fault.
At 40k miles, about 18 months ago, the water pump on my 2010 Cooper went. But my son did not pay attention to it as the the coolant warning flashes and went away. As we know it does not have a temperature gage. He kept driving without coolant. Naturally the engine was damaged.
The car was towed to the dealer. It initially diagnosed insufficient compression in one cylinders. Running without coolant was among the diagnosis too naturally. Later the dealer wanted $6k to replace the engine. I had it towed home after paying $1k to the dealership (diagnosis only). I bought a 40k mile engine and replaced it myself.
Two months ago, at about 52k miles, the car overheated again. I was driving the car. And I knew soon after it was the water pump. That was when I realized Mini used a plastic impeller water pump when took it apart. I replaced the water pump and the coolant transfer tube, at a cost of about $150. My labor is of course free. The new water pump has a metal impeller.
So yesterday I was filling out the claim form. I found the most I can claim is the cost of the replacement parts. Do you think I can get the receipt from the dealership 18 months ago and claim the maximum? The maximum claim allowed by the class action lawsuit is $500.
