Blown Engine!

Hello,

I have a Mini Cooper D 2007(Mini-N, MG31, version AB). Recently I put some oil in the car as my daughter was taking it on the highway. About 2km into the trip, a plume of smoke came out, she was able to pull over onto the shoulder, but the vehicle would not restart. I had it towed to a garage where they said that too much oil was the reason for the engine failure, as well, the starter has now failed also.

I am removing it from the garage tomorrow as I am not convinced that they bothered to look into the problem as there are some other factors involved. We live in Brussels, Belgium and since this is a Euro4 classed vehicle it is supposed to be off the road in Brussels Region on 30 June. So even if running, resale is severely impacted.

The vehicle has been reliable and a joy to drive. As I live on the outskirts of Brussels Region, there is the possibility to still use the vehicle in the outlying areas of Brussels, effectively to get me back and forth to work.

There is oil around the head gasket and has pooled on the bottom engine cover with some leaking on the ground. The oil stick still indicates slightly over filled. When trying to start the engine there is a loud grinding noise…then ticking.e

Oil visible.

Does someone have any ideas as to the probability or possibility of repairing these problems, is it worth the expense? (Obviously cheaper than buying a new car I would think). For that matter what the problems may be? Starter, head gasket……?

One last question, I am thinking of flat towing the vehicle 2km to a place where it may be worked on. Is this feasible?

Thank you for your help.
