Default Brake Pedal Clunk

This is my first Mini (2014 Coupe). I have what I think it's a problem with the brake pedal making a very annoying noise. When you quickly remove your foot from the pedal it makes a loud clunk. I took a look and there is play between the master cylinder plunger rod and the brake pedal. Not sure which part is worn out. The pin that connects the rod to the pedal or what looks like a shim....or, if there is supposed to be some sort of rubber stopper. The car only has 22k miles.

Thanks in advance.

My wife's 2012 Hardtop, Auto with 28K miles on the clock has been doing this forever.

A Google search brought me here, and disappointed to that there's no solution yet.
