Default R56 Mini Cooper s overheating

Question: Can a possibly bad ECU cause an engine to overheat? If so, how?The cooling system of the car is okay but it's still overheating and it is not misfiring as a result of a bad head gasket.
Thank you

Overheating is caused by.a few things, waterpump, thermostat or blocked radiator.thermostats are a weak point on mini as is the hose connecting to it.could also be an air blockage.sorry best thing to do is find a mechanic to check it out asap or you could damage the head.
