Superknock ?

I just took my 2007 Cooper S to the dealer because of poor power. One of the things they mention is...
FOUND TO HAVE SUPERKNOCK FAULTS WITH FUEL
SHUT OFF, RECOMEND MANUAL VALVE CLEANING,
SPARKPLUGS, FLUSHES AND PROGRAMMING.
COMPRESSION IS EVEN @ 170PSI (SCAN FOR
FAULTS)
I've never heard of 'Superknock'.......anyone have any ideas or fixes?

Thisis normally caused by poor quality fuel ...
Have you been running Premium as recomended in the manual ?

Super knock faults are normaly caused by low on oil, about 3 quarts low,
Check your oil level first,
2007, S models, not uncomman to have to take off intake manifold and use a media blaster with crushed walnut shells to clean the intake valves of coking, I do it quite often, work at a Mini dealer. usualy get misfire faults for the valve cleaning.
Need to check also camshaft timing.
Of course this is all based on you doing your maintance on time.
Check the oil first.
Not uncommon to use a quart of oil every 2000 miles.
I know that you are checking the oil every month and tire pressures?

I'm two weeks and about 800 miles into my first MINI. Got a 2010 Cooper S with 39000+ original miles (MINI Next). But I haven't looked at the oil or tire pressure yet. Though I have washed it twice.

With the electronic tire-pressure monitors, do I really need to check tire pressure that regularly?

And are you serious about the oil going that fast? *How do I know what oil it's been using? Would this be listed anywhere in the books or do I need to call the dealer? Don't want to put synthetic in if it's been regular oil.

Thanks!

Jeff

I took my 07 Mini S in for a 5k service. The boost was draggy. They diagnosed a cylinder misfire and super knock. I changed the coil on the trouble cylinder and it seemed to help a bit. I had to schedule a follow up for a week later so I tried a few things to help the cause. I ended up changing all the coils. No luck and the knock is getting more pronounced. They just changed the oil so I’d be surprised if I lost any oil in just a few days. (I’ll check in the morning to be sure) I’ve heard timing chain, possibly in need of a walnut blast, but for the moment it’s getting worse. Any ideas at all?
