There doesn't seem to be oil on my dipstick?
Hello guys!
I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S. I had the oil changed at the dealer at 65,000 miles and now I'm at 68,000. I noticed lately that when I take sharp turns, my oil pressure light comes on. As soon as I straighten out, it turns off so it only turns on for a half second. I checked my oil and I used the paper towel method to wipe off the dipstick and check the level. On the paper towel, there's oil from the top and bottom balls of the dipstick but there's absolutely nothing in between. I tried spinning it around in the paper towel and nothing came off. I added a quart of oil (Castrol SAE 5W-30) and checked it again and there's still nothing. The soonest the dealership can look at it is next Monday but I don't want my car to blow up before then! haha |
You are low on oil. I would not drive it any further. The R56 Cooper S (turbo) engines are know to consume some oil. Sometimes as low as 2 quarts or more, if you have an additional leak. You will also hear the rattle noise.
Also if you have the older dipstick ( flexible type spring metal ) its hard to read. Here is the DIY for reading the dipstick on the early 07 R56 MINI withe the metal type. I would advise getting the newer design dipstick as the old one is no longer available. Its a little easier to read.
