Default Check engine light - Clearing codes

I got the P0456 code on my Mini the other day, and from what I read, it's possible that I caused this myself by leaving the car running while I put gas in it... it was freaking COLD outside. I have a scanner (obviously), but when I try to clear the code, it keeps saying "Code Clearing Failure". I know the scanner isn't faulty. What's the trick to clearing the code on a Mini? I've tried it with the FOB out, the FOB in, and with the engine running, but none of the three seem to work. Help is appreciated!

I believe you need to clear codes with the ignition on and the engine not running, so start the vehicle, read the codes, then push the stop button before clearing the codes.

My 2010 R56 MUST have driver's door closed to read codes.
