Mini Clubman Cooper D 2L R55 (Bond Street) - SMOKING AND SMELL - is this the DPF rege

Hi all

I have only had my mini for 6 months. Driving it away from the garage I could smell burning oil but put it down to sitting idle!! (stupid). Anyway on short quick journeys when I stop there is smoke billowing out of the bonnet and the smell is like burning oil! If I go on a long journey it doesn't happen as much.

Took it to my mechanic who said that is was valve cover gasket was leaking and heat shield is oil saturated, he cleaned it up and did the work but I still have the same problem.

Wonder if anyone can help??

I had the same issue

I have an 08 n/a 1.6L and had the same issue. Turned out to be the oil filter housing O-rings, vacuum pump O-rings and valve cover gasket. The valve cover and vacuum pump are relatively easy if you have mechanical experience. The filter housing is a bit of nightmare. I did mine myself for around $100 for parts and 2.5 hours of my time.
