Default R55 Clubman Questions

On a recent visit to my local MINI dealer for a BROKEN LATCH ON THE FREAKIN BARN DOOR, they decided to also look at things they would like to replace because $300 to install a latch was not enough. On the list was rear discs and rotors; and something about a vacuum tank leaking and dripping oil. Is this standard for MINI's to have to replace the vacuum tank? What does it do, where is it located and can a shadetree mechanic replace it? The funnier thing to me is that it has an exhaust leak, and has had since I bought it with 88K miles. It now has 104K. Funny MINI did not find that, as I am sure that is worth a grand to them! Is there a weakspot in the exhaust I should be looking for, or a manifold crack? It is quiet except under hard acceleration, and there is no popping on deceleration or shifts. Mine is automatic if that makes a difference to either issue. Since I live 45 miles from the dealership, every fix is a day off and nightmare traffic. I would prefer to fix it myself if I can. Any ideas would be gladly accepted.
