04/05 auto trans?

Hey I'm looking at picking up an 04 auto non-'S' w/ sport package that has a blown transmission...I've looked at the car and it's definitely the trans that's blown, the engine runs great otherwise...I'm no stranger to building engines/transmissions/etc...etc... and am planning on repairing the car myself

however from a search I'm having a hard time confirming whether or not the trans is different between the 04 and 05 model years, yet I've found several 05 auto trans for sale at a good cost over the dealership and with a warranty...will the 05 trans fit in an 04? is there any differences in the wiring harness between the sport and base packages? looks like they changed the manual transmission, but the auto remained the same...I'm fine with swapping over all the exterior sensors and such needed, and I'm fine with the internals being different...as long as the axels will mate up and the ecu will operate as it should with the 05 transmission

thanks in advance for any insight!

There are SEVERAL places that you can send the tranny to and they will rebuild it and send it back (with warranty) ... To me that would be the better route
OR there are places that will send you a rebuilt one and credit with the core return
I believe either of them should be able to answer the questions I'm pretty sure they ask for VIN I'm betting they have a listing as to what tranny is used by VIN

trouble is the transmission is fine, the housing is cracked on the bottom and leaks fluid....the car drives and shifts perfectly fine as is...but by the sounds of that post I'm guessing that it's pretty common for these transmissions to blow? what exactly is it that happens to these transmissions?

and also, could you direct me to one of these rebuild locations? even if the trans problem I'm having is different I'm sure that I could probably still utilize that service in this situation

thanks for the information thus far!
