CVT Transmission Adaption Reset

CVT Transmission Adaption Reset
My 06 Cooper with a CVT transmission is whining. The dealership confirmed noise is from transmission, and can only advise to buy a new one for $8,300. They could not find any other type of malfunction other than the whining. It has 78,000 miles on it. Fluid has been changed and tranny otherwise functions normally (Shifts very smoothly, etc). Has anyone had success with a transmission adaption reset? Or would I be throwing away another $200 bucks? Should I just deal with the obnoxious noise until the tranny dies? Advice is appreciated.
(Yes, I am now learning of the probs with this tranny.)

Did you ever receive an answer to your question? How is the trans doing now?
