Default EWS incorrect random code

So, i bought this 2006 mini cooper last week. Guy i bought it from said it just wouldn't start one day. When you turn the key it doesn't even turn over. He replaced the ignition switch and starter and it didn't fix it. So, he just decided to sell it. I did the ews test with the fuse and it turns over now. Checked the other wires that are supposed to have power and they do. When I check the codes I get one that says incorrect random key code. The buttons on the remote dont work on the car either. I tried reprogramming the remote but that did nothing. Tested the remote with a tester we have at work and it is sending out a signal. The car just doesnt recognize it. Could this be because the ews immobilizer isn't working. I was thinking of doing the ews delete, but don't want to waste money on it if it could be something else.

I had the same exact issue. Turns out the ews was module faulty. I sent out my ecu to get the ews taken out and a piece to make it so i don't need the ews module anymore.
I found the service on ebay and even got a key with it.
hope this helps

Thank you for the reply. That was what I was thinking about doing. I found a couple of vendors online that do it. Plan on sending it out next week
