Head gasket/timing chain
I have '06 mini base model. Need to replace head gasket. ( Actually need to replace a few burned valves due to heavy carbon build up ). Besides gasket set, new head bolts and new camshaft sprocket bolt, is there anything else I will need? Also, how do I re-time cam and timing chain when putting back together? Any advise or suggestions would be great. ANy only have any idea how long a job this is?

BUY a service manual it will give you the needed specifics on torque/ alignment ect
It's far too involved to post all needed info here. We did one in a weekend , |
head gasket/timing chain
Thanks for the advise. Just ordered a Haynes guide I'm sure it will be well worth the $25 investiment. I saw photos on line where some one
removed timing chain sprocket and kept tension on it upward with head off to avoid having to re-time. Any one able to do this successfully, any ideas of how to get head off while keeping it pulled up ward would be great |
I've seen guys look it down on the inside of the head one guy made a rig that bolted to the valve cover holes and came out and engaged the sproket

i know alot of modern cars are going to better timing chains, and i was wondering when i should start worrying about it on my mini

I've heard 100k and or making noise

^^^ What's the noise sound like? Where and when does it make noise? I have one making a strange noise under acceleration. Doesn't happen 100% of the time but it has me concerned.
