I have never before purchased such a money pit

Corporate Mini (BMW) was real nice to me and very accessible until I wouldn't take their "deal" and throw $3500 into the car for something that should have been covered under the warranty. Then suddenly, my main contact at corporate was never available and they had some new person deal with me -- She was cold and rude and acted like I should be HAPPY that they agreed to go half.
What a horrible company.
I'm driving a 2011 Honda CR-V.

I'm having a multitude of problems as well. This will be the last Mini that ever darkens my driveway. I like the way the car drives, but if you keep it past the warranty period (which unfortunately I've done - even the extended warranty is out) you need a home equity line of credit to keep it on the road.

Bad Car
I bought and S Convertible brand new in 2006. Major repairs included a timing belt at 50K and a blown head gasket at 100k. When I tallied up all of the maintenance and repairs I had done over the past 7 years, it came to a hair over $15,000. I was so angry, that I could not even bring myself to sell the car privately. I got $7000 on a trade in for a used Honda Accord. And I just met a guy this weekend who had a similar story. He brought a used 2006 Cooper S, and had also spent $15,000 in maintenance and repairs over the 3 years that he had owned the car. He traded in his for a Camry. I cannot deny that it car was fun to drive, but definitely not worth the money and the headaches.

Sorry to hear of all the issues. My wife drives a 2002 Mini with 109,000 miles. It does not burn and oil nor drip any oil. We have not had any real issues with it. I do all of the routine maintenace myself and recently changes the serpintine belt and the brakes.
I seel commercial insurance specifically to automotive services businsses, such as repair shops. Without a doubt, the only reason to ake your vehicle to the dealer is for warranty work. Routine maintenance can be performed by a reputable independent. Once your warranty is expired you should always use a reputable independent. I have one customer that only services German mae cars including Mini. His techs are all ASE certified and factory trained. The service rate per hour is substantially less that a Mini dealer and the service area is cleaner than the Mini dealer.
