My 02 Mini's engine blew! Please help!
 

I have 02 Mini, which just gave up on its life on a freeway 2 days ago. It turned out there is a hole in the motor due to a lack of oil. Yes the oil lamp was "flickering" off and on for a while but failed to stay on steady, so I thought it was just a lamp malfunctioning. :(

Now I need a new motor and an estimate from the dealer is $8600 which is highler than the value of the car. So now I am considering replacing with a used motor at some shops other than the dealer.

First of all, is this recommended to do engine swap for nearly 10 year old car?

And also if anyone knows any shops that work on mini with used motor, in SF bay area, please let me know!!!
