1. push in the odometer mileage reset button and hold it
2. put in the key and turn it to the first or second position (don't start the car, the position right before start)
3. give it a second and the indicator will blink then show "reset"
4. release and push the button a couple of times. You will notice to the left of where it says "reset" there is a little number that increases each time you press the button.. from 2, to 5, to 10.. I'm assuming this is the thousands of miles you want the reset to be good for? I stop when it says 10... 3 pushes.
5. When you get to your desired interval number press AND HOLD the button one more time, turn the key back to the off position.

I have a 2002 Mini S- I am having the same trouble as the previous person trying to reset the milage. I get the same 1, 2, and so on. But this is listed as a series of tests. That is the word that shows not the word reset. When I get the number one and release the button, I get 1.1 and a milage number of 68553. If I press the button again, I get 1.2 and another number of 42554. If I do this again, 1.3 4330 is the number after that.
If I release after the test number 2 in the menu, the car tests the gauges. Please help. I really would like to reset Inspection 1 and 2 because car has completely checked over, with oil and air filters and fluids

For my 2003, this works...
1. Push the Trip Button
2. Turn ignition key to position 1 and "51A" will appear to left of mileage
3. Release trip button
4. Wait 3 seconds
5. Push trip button
6. Wait (5-8 seconds) for "RST" to appear in left corner
7. Release trip button
8. Push trip button
9. "15000" will appear as new service interval
10. Release trip button
Though for step 9, I get 15500.
