Tail Light Swap wiring problem

The 1st Gen 03 Non S Tail Lights has no reverse light...reverse light is located in the middle of bumper and just one. The 1st Gen 06 S Tail Lights has the reverse lights on them at the bottom one on each side. So in interchanging the two...How do I wire the 06 S tail light reverse light to work ? Should I run a wire from the reverse light on the middle bumper of the 03 Non S to the 06 S Tail light reverse light ? The wiring plug of the 03 has 5 male prongs... and the wiring plug of an 06 has probably 6 male prongs ? I don't know...Any suggestion... please help

Kind of disappointed that nobody replied on this one in the last 4 years. I'm doing the same thing today - installing '06 tail lights in an '02 non-S so that I can put in a tow bar for a bike rack in the center backup light hole. Lights are on order and it looks like the connector housing is comparable but I'm not sure about the pinouts or if they are removable. Also not sure about the best way to route the wire to the two new in-housing reverse lights. How did yours go? Any tips or gotchas? Thanks!

Wiring to convert '02 to '05 tail light

I converted my '02 (non reverse light) tail light to an ''05 tail light with reverse lights. This was part of a rear bumper cover replacement and trailer hitch installation but there are videos that cover that part. I'm just covering how I did the wiring. The main thing to know starting out is that you need to tap into the reverse light lead and wire it to the tail light connector pin next to the brown wire on each side. I should also say that I was working on a base model 2002 R50 hatchback so the two wires I replaced connected to the top light in the tail light cluster which did not seem to be used by the car. Not sure about other models.

The overview of what I did is:
  1. Access the tail light wiring on the right side through the access panel.
  2. Tap into the reverse light wire - blue with yellow stripe - with a "T tap".
  3. Run a new wire from the left side tail light to the right side. To do this I took the bumper off as part of the trailer hitch installation and wrapped the wire into the existing harness with electrical tape.
  4. Add a smaller wire to the right side and join that to the one from the left using the other side of the T tap connector.
  5. I like to leave any mod easily reversible so I bought a used tail light connector and scavenged two of the connector plugs rather than cut and splice the existing wiring, I connected each of the scavenged connectors to each new wire for the tail lights then opened up the connector on each side and swapped the connector next to the brown wire with the new lead.
  6. Tape up the now unused leads that were removed from the connectors so they don't short against something.

In the image below, the white wire is the newly installed wire and the yellow/black wire is the one that was replaced by the white wire in the connector. The white wire heading off-screen goes out with other wires running along the inside of the bumper to the right side tail light and is connected to the pin position next to the brown wire as well.
