Hi all
Thanks for taking the time to help me out on this. My R50 Cooper (not S), has decided that the gearbox should break after 120k miles (2002).
I’ve been told the motor and subframe must drop. I’ve done a few upgrades like air filter and performance service parts. But as the front end is going to be almost stripped, and I’m avoiding opening the engine to replace the cam, I was looking to add bolt ons. I have a racing exhaust and she sounds awesome. I have bought a custom exhaust manifold as well.
I was hoping to get a gearbox upgrade if one exists. I have seen some people do a 6 speed getrag conversion but this is a nightmare of parts and labour, so is hardly a bolt on job.
Just an upgraded 5 speed will do, or is it just a racing clutch that I can add on?
I was hoping someone has some experience of having upgraded things like throttle bodies and injectors etc. I will of course take her for a remap after the work is done.
I have seen someone put in the alloy/ pewter inlet from the S model, but this needs some modifying first. Does anyone know if this is available to buy somewhere?
Thanks again for your time, I’m really hoping someone has some insight into this.
