What problems to look for in buying old mini, beater?

Looking to buy old mini for short money. Likely be high mileage (+150K).
Basic criteria: 30+ MPG and air conditioning, that's it.
Purpose: A commuter vehicle for about 500 miles per week. All highway driving--no stop n go city driving. Daily of 120 miles.
Why mini: Want beater with panache, and stay with German.

What are some areas that I should check for problems--mechanical, electrical, etc. ?
General info is helpful, but am also looking for mini specific info Re. problem areas.

Thanks.

Well you can check the car by taking a test drive. because when you go for test drive you will feel if there is any problem in the car. Then you can also take a look on the car's engine if the engine is clean and also see the under the car area and suspension if these things are clean then it mean the whole car is fine.

I recomend getting service records if available.
Certain mini dealers are happy to print them out for you
With higher mileage be sure timing chains been replaced
If you have minimal mechanical abilities I'd take it to a mini mechanic an hour of time is cheap insurance to give it the once over for you

As bad venge mentioned, get a PPI! It'll highlight weak points which are useful and can also be used as a bargaining tool when it comes to discuss price.
