On my standard Mini, I find that gas milage drops roughly 3+ mpg (or there-abouts) with every 10 mph increase in cruizing speedover 55 mph. Headwinds knock the heck out of milage too. This makes me think that wind resistance is a big deal with Mini's if you are after maximum milage. Probably the same is true with a Mini S

Hey guys. I am new to the mini forum as I just bought a family members 2003 mini S. I bought it 3 weeks ago and love it BUT I have a question. The car is an 03 and had 18k miles on it because it mainly say in a parking gargage in NYC. Well, I have filled it up three times and cannot get more than 22 miles per gallon! Is there something wrong? Should I get a tune up? I mean of course the first tank I drove like a bat out of hell but now Im really driving very slow and I cant get more than 22mpg. I know very little about cars. Any help would be greatly apprciated[:-]

In town definately cuts down the MPG's ... Also how are you calculating the 22 off the trip computer ??? If so it's notorious for being 3/4 mpg low and that would be about right ...

Yeah I am going from the trip computer. Thats just weird to me that trip computer would be known for being wrong. Oh well, I guess its good news that there is nothing wrong with my car save for the darn glove box that falls open after every bump in the road. sigh.

thanks for the help man.

The trip meter not very accurate at all if you don't remember to reset it when you fill up. It will be heavily influenced by how you drove on your last tank full. After every fill-up I always reset my average mpg, average speed and trip odometer, just out of habit. Then, if I have time I calculate my fuel milage. With my Standard '06 Mini I have gotten as high as 41 mpg and as low as 33 mpg with 35 being about average. The computer is usually close, not more than a couple gpm off.

I've only had my Clubman for almost 3 weeks. However I'm pretty sure I'm getting an overall rate of 31 to 32 mpg.

I'm only basing this off the km/l and l/100km consumption readings on the computer as I accidentally reset the trip odometer part way through the first tank and am working on only the second tank full.

The computer is telling me that I get 13.4 km/l (7.5l/100km) but it's also telling me that I'm getting ~ 37 to 38 mpg. I did some quick calcs and came to the conclusion that my computer is calculating milage based on litres and Imperial Gallons, NOT US gallons!

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just an anomoly in my particular car?

BTW just for comparison, 31 mpg (US gal) is ~ 13.2 km/l and 7.6 l/100km
and this equates to 37.3 mpg (British Imperial gal)
