Blown H/K Speakers or Amp?
 

I'm looking at buying a 2004 Mini Cooper S. The only thing i'm really concerned about is the speakers. He says they're blown and has to take the stereo out because if it's put in the speakers will beep. I asked if the amp was potentially going out or if it is for sure the speakers, and he says he doesn't know for sure but that the beep is coming out of the speakers. I'm new to mini coopers, if the speakers are out can i replace them with speakers other than the harman kardon ones or do they have to be the h/k? Are there any other things I should look out for? There is also a little bit of play in the steering wheel, its hardly noticeable to me and to the current owner. Should i steer clear of these issues and look for another mini?

Hi Ellysa, i have an 04 Cooper S. i bought it in July of last year. When i test drove it, there was no play at all in the steering. I would call a Mini specialist about that. As far as the speakers go, i'm pretty sure you can replace the speakers with aftermarket ones. My door speakers fade in and out but it really doesn't bother me. The car is small that the speakers in the back do the trick. Hope this helps.
