Camshaft position sensor fault

I have looked on this forum and can’t find anything that’s exactly my problem although I’ve seen it on the Internet on other sites.
I have a 2005 R53/Mini Cooper S. Recently I tried to give my car some throttle at low highway speeds and low rpm. It went into limp mode, or maybe it was traction control (DSC), as if running on three cylinders. I later read the codes and got P0340 camshaft position sensor error, and the service engine soon light.
I replaced the camshaft position sensor myself, (twice) I did not use a dealer provided part, I used an OEM spec replacement. The harness to the sensor appeared in good condition as did the wires. After putting it back together and running the car it had very little power when I would get on the throttle at low rpm only, and would automatically turn on the DSC light and the service engine light. If I stay out of the throttle a bit the car seems to run normally and DSC light comes on now and then, even if I just rev the engine. The car starts perfect every time and idles normally, everything else is functioning normally.
What now?
I apologize if this has been posted on another thread already. Thanks for your help.
Eddie
