Clutch gave out!!!

So today I had the pleasure of having my mini break down on me. I don't understand what happened and now I am freaking out with the thought of how much its going to cost me. So what happened was that I started my mini and I felt that I had to push my clutch all the way back until I finally got it into gear and then there was a delayed for the car to go forward on the first gear with shook the car a lot. I knew something was wrong but I decided to keep on going until I got to work to look at it. On the road, whenever I hit the clutch to put my shift into gear I felt like my clutch was like a rubber band that has been stretched too thin and the delayed reaction to move was getting worse. Finally when I was holding the clutch down while the car was in neutral and I hit the brakes to see what would happen, the car died. The clutch was stuck at the back and I needed to pull on it for it to work. Now my question is, is the clutch broken down or is it just something simple that needs to be replace? BTW its a 2003 regular model.

Thanks for any help.

RE: Clutch gave out!!!

Have you check yourpower steering fluid reservior it could be low. Beleive it or not, your Mini has a hydraulic clutch actuator, that runs on power steering fluid.
