I just bought a used 03 Mini Cooper S and I need some advise for an exhaust system. I was considering Alta but its a little pricey. Any suggestions?

Alta Pulley Supercharger 15%

I just bought an Alta 15% supercharger pulley and I was wondering if I need a 2% crank pulley? Please advise

Hey Speedracer-34, I did purchase the Alta exhaust. It is pricey but it is less expensive then the other big brand names like Magnaflow and Borla. You can go Invidia it's cheaper. I'd stay away from OBX though. You do want to get quality parts. Especially for your Mini. I also put in a 17% pulley and no you don't need the crank pulley. It'll be really quick already with just the sc pulley. Good luck!

teamslam1 how is the alta exhaust? did it improve the power to your mini and how is the sound to it? my exhaust for my 03 cooper just broke two days ago and i want to replace it with something better, and when adding a new sc pulley do you need to change anything with the internal computer?

I just found out my exhaust broke right on the cat like right before it. So what's the best thing to do where can a get a cheap factory cat?

teamslam1 02-28-2015 02:50 AM

Hey ryan2112, I absolutely love the Alta exhaust! It has the great "burble" sound that is famous with our Minis. It is kinda loud at first but once it got broken in it has a nice hum to it. There are some Youtube videos floating around so you can kinda hear the difference. And the same with the SC pulley. Your Mini will "learn" that it has a lighter pulley so once it has broken it in, you will definitely feel the difference from stock. Hope this helps. Be safe. Drive fast. Don't get caught. Peace.

Hey ryan2112, I would check your local muffler shop. They can weld a new cat on there. In my opinion it doesn't need to be from factory.

teamslam1 do you have a special brand in mind? I want something that is going to last. And thank you everyone for the help you all helped very much

Ok last question sorry guys but in just found a salvaged exhaust manifold with cat and o2 sensors for 395 and a 30 garentee. A remanufactored is around 1200 with 2 year 25,000 warrantee . So I want to go with the salvaged one or an eastern cat with manifold but I've never heard anything about those and that's about 700 with a 5 year 50,000 warentee . So what do you think is my best bet what is the best deal for the price also what isn't gonna shot out

Hey ryan2112, I would go with the salvaged one if you're on a budget. Nothing wrong with a salvaged one. Good luck man!

03' exhaust ideas?

Just inherited my dad's prized r53, and him and I want to get an exhaust together. I told him about the Agency Power catback, but he has not heard of it. it looks reliable, but I am torn between the Agency and Borla Catback. Alta is also a consideration, but I want to know which I will be most satisfied with.

I had the same issue as you. It seems the R53 model exhaust has a weak weld at this joint and is susceptible to cracking and falling apart. I removed my header and and cat section, cleaned up the area and rewelded. Does not seem as if this option suits you so go for the salvage exhaust if you are on a budget. Keep in mind the salvage exhaust is probably the same as OEM and can experience the same crack. Also, I use Way Motor Works for most of my MINI parts and tools. I trust him with all things MINI as he has never steered me in the worng direction over the last 10 years. He has header, cat and muffler options as well as other parts. Check him out if you get a chance.
