Help with 02 Mini S fan problems

Okay I've been driving my 02 Cooper S without a/c for awhile because the fan is not working. It overheats if it is sitting still. I ordered a new fan and it arrived yesterday. Today I removed the old one and replaced it with the new one but it still doesnt work! I am getting frustrated with this headache. I tested the motor on the old fan by directly connecting it to the battery and it works. Somy Mini isin pieces outside :(. Anyone has or has had this problem before? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Another quick question....what is the little sensor inside the front bumper?

check the relay for stage 1 and two fans located under the hood next to the air box.

I checked that already and everything is working properly.

RE: Help with 02 Mini S fan problems

I have never had call to work on my Mini's fan circuit, but if it is like most fan circuits;

When the cooling system's high temperature switch heats up, it closes a contact and sends a small amount of power to primary side of the fan relay which in turn energizes the secondary side of relay, which sends a large amount of power to the fan motor. You can check the relay by applying power to the primary side from a 12 volt source instead of from the high temp switch. If the fan comes on, it is the high temp switch that is bad. If the fan doesn't come on, it is most likely a faulty relay, or no power to the secondary side of the relay, or the ground for either of the circuits is bad.

I don't know for sure, but quite often the fan is energized whenever the air conditioner is energized too. That system could be shorted out.

I said f it and just connected it direct with a toggle switch. Now everytime I want to turn the fan on I just hit the switch. I did this with the old fan. I still have the new one if anyone is interested.
