Default Power To Alternator

RE: 2003 Mini Cooper S
During a Clutch Change and Super Charger Service I accidentally shorted the power cable going to the Alternator. Now there is No power in the cable going to the Alternator. I've checked the fuses I can find, all are good. Suggestions as to where else to look? Car will start and run but Alternator Light is on, Traction Control Light on and no Power Steering. Thank you for your Wisdom and Insight..

Start the car, leave it running and remove the negative battery cable. in most case the alternator will keep the car working.
The caveat to this is the Mini's electrical system may not work this way, so some one else needs to chime in.

The other way to test the alternator is remove it and take it to the local auto store to have it tested.

Ruby: Thank you for your response. The issue is not with the Alternator. Per my original post, The issue is with the power supply cable to the Alternator. It's supposed to have 12v when the Ignition is on. In this case there is no 12v. I've checked all Fuses I can find. I'll spark chase it over the weekend and see if I find a Fuse-able link or something.

Update: Issue Resolved. The alternator gets its operating 12v from a cable that runs from the starter. The starter has a 12v cable coming from the battery. The alternator has a cable that connects to the same lug on the starter as the incoming 12v to the starter. I failed to connect the cable from the alternator to the starter. Once connected, all was well.
